SEASONAL NATURAL DYE WORKSHOP WITH SAYDE LAINE ANDERSON

In this workshop, we will explore the process of natural dyeing on plant fibers. We will work with locally grown dye plants from the Reality farm to create a range of colors on cotton and linen. This is a sustainable practice that is perfect for quilters, knitters, weavers, garment makers and anyone interested in deepening their relationship with the natural world through craft. Throughout the three hours together we will dive into how to prepare your fabric for natural dye, extract color from plants and cure your fiber for a colorfast life. After you sign up you will receive an email with what to bring for the workshop. Join us for a good time out at Little Sparrow Farm as we experiment with natural dyes!

WOODWORKING WORKSHOP WITH ELIA BIZZARRI

Little Sparrow is elated to offer an opportunity to learn from a dear old friend, Elia Bizzarri."Working entirely with hand tools, we'll fell a tree, split it into blanks and shave a simple spatula or butter knife.  In the process, we'll talk about wood selection and learn to use hatchets, drawknives, knives and hands.  Emphasis will be placed on learning skills to take home, skills that can also be used to make spoons, bowls and other fun things (most people will also leave with a byproduct of their learning: a spatula or butter knife)."

BROOM MAKING WORKSHOP WITH MIRIAM BRADFORD

In this workshop, we will learn how to make a Turkey Tail Broom. You might be asking “What do you use for making a handmade broom?” That is a great question! The plant material is called broomcorn (Sorghum bicolor) and the plant is closely related to sweet sorghum (Sorghum vulgare), which is the plant used to produce sorghum molasses. Broomcorn is an annual plant and some people might compare it to field corn, but the difference is that there are no cobs on the broomcorn. Only a tassel at the top. There are other materials that can be used for the sweeper of a broom, but we will be focusing on traditional brooms for this particular workshop.
